The New Zealand government is phasing out hard-to-recycle plastics and single use items. As of July 1, 2023 the sale and manufacture of single-use plastic produce bags, plastic plates, bowls and cutlery, and plastic produce labels will be banned in Aotearoa.
We want to assist you and your business say goodbye to hard-to-recycle plastics and help keep our country one of the greenest in the world. The proposed changes may seem scary, but we are here to help and address some questions you may have.
Which Castaway items are included in the ban?
Only a few of our products are affected. We will no longer sell, or stock plastic cutlery, plates and bowls as of the effective date.
Can I still order these items before July 1?
Yes! We have limited stock available for some of these items. Please check the cutlery and plates and bowls categories on the Castaway New Zealand website to place an order and secure stock before July 1.
Will Castaway offer alternative items?
Yes! We have been stocking eco-friendly items in our range for a long time. Please visit our website to shop for wooden cutlery, paper plates or sugarcane plates and bowls.
